Human Resources Generalist

The human resources generalist at Squirrels manages the company’s people operations tasks. You will be responsible for
talent management, benefits administration, culture and policy strategy. You need great interpersonal skills and need to know the ins and outs of labor law, benefits administration and conflict resolution and mediation. This role provides a great amount of autonomy and growth opportunity as you are the sole team member leading the people ops charge. It requires an understanding of progressive human resources methods and a drive to implement and try new processes, programs and tools.


  • Perform all talent acquisition tasks, including preparing and posting job descriptions, candidate evaluation, interviewing, hiring and onboarding
  • Build relationships with local and national tech schools, learning programs, recruiting firms and other contacts to reach candidates
  • Manage benefits administration responsibilities including processing healthcare enrollments/changes/termination, 401(k) enrollment and deductions and managing fringe benefits
  • Assist in the creation and management of a structured compensation benchmarking plan to ensure equal opportunities and scalable roles
  • Manage all information and processes within our HRIS (Zenefits)
  • Effectively use the HRIS to accurately measure employee information and trends as required by law (ACA, FMLA, EEO-1, Affirmative Action)

  • Oversee and advise on employee and manager performance reviews
  • Conduct quarterly team performance and planning meetings with managers and assist in creating employee growth plans
  • Perform conflict mediation and management to deescalate and address interpersonal disputes
  • Provide insight and support to leadership and employees on company policies and practices


  • At least five years of experience working in an HR role
  • At least three years of recruiting, hiring and onboarding 
  • At least two years of benefits administration (healthcare, 401(k), PTO, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent experience
  • Industry certification such as SHRM/PHR/HRCI or willingness to complete within the first year of work
  • Experience with HRIS software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong ethical principles focused on confidentiality and the integrity of the employees
  • Ability to effectively use macOS and administrative tools like Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
